Mafia "The City OF Lost Heaven" Game Review: Mafia The City of Lost Heaven 2002 is a 3rd person shooter game initially created for Microsoft Windows that year(PS2 and the Xbox were ported in 2004). It was made by Czech game developer Illusion Softworks while launched by Gathering of Developers. Mafia game enables the player to assume the role of a mafioso who has to complete various missions to advance in the game. This game particularly got heavy critical reaction. By mid-2008 Mafia has sold 2,000,000 copies as reported by Take-Two Interactive. Mafia The City of Lost Heaven begins in the year 1930s, in the later part of Prohibition, which came to an end in 1933. We start in a fictional US metropolis of Lost Heaven (having rough resemblance of Philadelphia,New York City and Chicago of that era). The gamer assumes the role of a cabbie named Thomas (Tommy)Angelo, who, makes a living on the streets of Lost Heaven by driving a taxi, but one day he reluctantly becomes involved in organized crime as transporter as well as enforcer for the Salieri crime family, headed by Don Ennio Salieri. As the plot of the game unfolds, Angelo begins to progress through the ranks of the crime family, which is currently at loggerheads with the rival Morello family, headed by Don Morello. Ultimately becoming disillusioned by his sinful life, Thomas Angelo arranges a meeting with a detective named Norman and spills his story in front of him, in exchange of witness protection and finally bring about the destruction of the Salieri family. Intermezzo chapters of the Mafia, show Tommy in a cafe with the Detective Norman, giving out vital info to him and telling him his life story at the same time. The gameplay primarily features driving, mostly easy city cruise between different points including chases and races while the rest of the game is based on 3rd-person navigation and shooting which are all inter-linked with cutscenes. Along with this, the city is photo-realistic and a vast countryside, largely detailed interiors for example the city's church, airport, museum, hotel, abandoned prison, diners and Don Salieri's bar are also a part of the gameplay. Weather options and day & night cycles are also included. IGN awarded the game a rating of 9.2 out of 10, while GameSpot considered the PC version of Mafia as "one of the best titles of the 2002" and gave it at 9.3/10 rating. Game Informer considered it similar to GTAIII.
