Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box Game Review: Burnout Paradise 2008 is the 7th game in the Burnout racing game series. It was created by Criterion Games and launched by Electronic Arts. It was released in 2008 for PS3 and Xbox 360 and a year later for Microsoft Windows. It was also unveiled on the PS Store in mid-2008 and via Xbox Live Marketplace's Games in August 2009. Then was added to libraries of Greatest Hits and Platinum Hits titles. Burnout Paradise 2009 is starts in an open world environment. Gamers are allowed to advance at their own pace and level, as this game is not actually set to a strict gameplay framework. Alex Ward, the creative director of this game at developer Criterion Games, said that this is a "complete reinvention" of the Burnout game series. Ward also announced "To build truly future generation gameplay, we had to do that from scratch". A patch called(Davis) added night/day cycle feature to this game. For the first time in the history of the series, game records are now shown on a gamer's drivers license, with statistics like fastest time and dramatic crash for every street in Burnout Paradise. Along with free updates, Criterion has unleashed various optional, premium packs that add game content like latest cars, maps and modes. The first update patch was announced was dubbed Burnout Party Pack and was unveiled in February, 2009 in USA and the UK. Its primary focus is upon single-console multiplayer gameplay, which gives a Freeburn Challenge kind of setting, but for gamers on the same console, who switch one controller between players to complete levels. The challenges are divided into Skill,Speed & Stunt and with 8 rounds and up to 8 gamers can play simultaneously. Criterion in addition to this also announced the combo pack called the Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box that was launched around the same time. Burnout Paradise received warm response, getting the Editor's Choice in GameSpot. Metacritic has placed the game at 88/100 for the Xbox 360 release and 87 out of 100 for the PlayStation3. Game Rankings awarded 88% for the Xbox 360 and 88% for the PlayStation3 version. Giant Bomb, GamePro and Game Chronicles gave the Burnout Paradise an excellent score.
